A Microfinance Bank is a bank that serves as an intermediate institution between microfinance organizations and commercial banks, operating subject to certain limitations established by law. It provides banking services to small and medium-sized businesses, self-employed individuals, as well as individual and corporate customers.

Like other commercial banks, a Microfinance Bank operates under a banking license issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the same time, it conducts its activities subject to the following limitations established by law: - the amount of deposits accepted from any one individual may not exceed the amount of the guaranteed deposit established under the legislation on bank deposit protection guarantees; - the maximum risk exposure to a single borrower or a group of related borrowers may not exceed UZS 5 billion; - loans granted to finance entrepreneurial activities and income-generating activities of self-employed persons must account for at least 70% of the Bank's loan portfolio, and/or the corresponding Islamic finance transactions must account for at least 70% of the Bank's Islamic finance portfolio; - opening correspondent or other accounts with foreign banks, issuing guarantees for the obligations of foreign individuals and legal entities, and providing services related to customers' foreign trade transactions are prohibited; - investments may be made only in highly liquid debt securities designated by the Central Bank within the framework of the prudential requirements for banks' liquidity management.
